The Game Belt

The Game belt was designed and created for an avid hunter. I designed it with a mix of the classic filigree, as well as some figure carving dotted in. The challenge was to create recognisable animal heads which would fit within the 1-1/2″ wide belt.

I fit a total of 4 animal heads within this belt: a bighorn sheep, an elk, a moose, and a whitetail deer. The simple repeating filigree pattern ties the whole piece together.

I died the main piece in Saddle tan, with a dark brown background. I painted the animal antlers as well as the big horn sheep so that they really pop on the belt. The subtle contrast between the dark brown and the saddle tan really ties this whole piece together and allows the craving to shine withough beeing to gaudy.
