I made this bible cover for my grandmother. I designed it to have a little bit of her, and a little bit of me. As such I carved the front with some filigree and roses for me. I added the cross and dyed the back grounds and accents in green for her. I also added her favorite scripture, Jerimiah 29:11 to the front.
On the inside flap I added the actual scripture. I also lined the whole piece with goat skin to protect her bible. I dyed the main body in dark brown and stitched the whole piece with a dark brown thread so as to not take away from the carvings and scripture.
designing this carving was fun and one of the more meaningfull projects I’ve done. I love how the whole piece came together and how it has a little of her in it and a little of me!
