Every now and then, I take on a project just for the art. This is one of those projects! This Kindle case was so much fun to make. adding a whimsical look to an everyday item. While it doesn’t add any functionality to it, I think that the art was worth it!
Trying to design and carve all the little oddities was a true test of my skills. It is so gratifying to see how far I have come. This entire piece is hand-carved, dyed, and painted. Doing the little details in paint made me ridiculously happy that I never got rid of my tiny paintbrushes!

Some of the things you can find on the shelves were inspired by items I already have. Although I personally don’t have a wet specimen, a jar of eyes, or any human or bird bones. I did base the cat on the shop supervisor, Bandit. As he regularly sleeps in that very same position on the back of our living room chair!
